Applications for “Stokers” to ride the 20-mile distance on a tandem bike with a person with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) are now open! Last year, we paired participants with IDD as Stokers with experienced Domestiques as pilots for our inaugural Tandem Program with huge success, and we’re excited to open registration for this year!
What is a Stoker? The Stoker is the person on the back of a tandem bike whose job is to provide power.
“We don’t know who had more fun, the stokers on the back or the pilots on the front,” said Richard Fries, director of cycling experience who helped create the program alongside other Domestiques in their trademark pink jerseys. “We do know that everybody wanted to come back.”
